These photos reveal a hidden light in the American Wild West. From collapsing lava tubes lined with microbial mats to high altitudes where lichens thrive, certain minerals and organic materials can fluoresce strangely when exposed to ultraviolet radiation. This spectrum is invisible to humans. A parallel world was unveiled at night, using long exposures with ultraviolet light sources. The terrifying light emanating from these once-familiar surfaces turned the mundane into something extraterrestrial. His familiar landscapes of the American West were made peculiar through lighting that seemed to reveal more darkness: the earth's waves undulating, radiating toward the horizon like a solid ocean. The silhouettes of the behemoths hanging from the geological period emerge, revealing strange symmetry in the soft afterglow of red and blue lines. Like the shift in the visible spectrum as a celestial body moves toward or toward the observer, these images evoke a feeling akin to the contraction and expansion of the universe. This relative push and pull disorients the observer's own perspective and position, allowing the universe to look back.
