What is Light Painting Photography ?

Light painting is a photography method, which is a photographic technique that uses a moving light source, such as a flashlight, to add light to the subject during long exposure shots. Use beam drawing to bring a scene or object to life. Photographers become artists, but in very different ways. Janne Parviainen is not only a talented light painter, he is also an accomplished oil painter. He creates incredible colorful paintings on glass! When talking about the art of light painting, the Finnish artist's work has been featured in various art blogs and magazines around the world. Janne Parviainen says: "In my Sunbeam art photos I try to combine real life objects and models (myself) with light painting. In some of the photos (highway) I use anamorphic painting and black paper cropping to create new dimensions for the photo area. In all photos, all effects were created with light painting, except for the mirroring of the photo on the invisible wall.

Autobahn (2021) Light painting photographer Janne Parviainen, also known as JANNEPAINT, a full-time artist who has been working in photography for over 15 years. Like many light painters, his discovery of the medium was an accident. His favorite place to paint with light is urban exploration and the constant inspiration it provides him. Light painting has been done for about three years. Neon Wave (2021) Janne's favorite *painting* color is yellow ochre. Favorite shoot The location is an abandoned mansion forest on the outskirts of Helsinki, and Janne's dream light painting location is Egypt. Would love to paint a light painting on the ancient ruins of Karnak or the pyramids. The Invisible Wall (2021) Janne's favorite light painting Like "Late Night Show"; imagery made with missmoody. It has a movie theater full of gaffers watching movies. It's really challenging and fun, it has 15 gaffers and it takes 20 minutes Exposure time!

Light painting tools

Be sure you have the right tools before you start painting with light. Exposure times used in light painting range from a few seconds to a few hours, depending on for the desired effect. Commonly used tools for light painting include flashlights, colored flashes, LED light sticks, EL wires (battery-powered LED wires), battery-powered Christmas lights, lightsabers and other children's lighting toys, or tools specially made for light painting. By placing different kinds of colored gels on it, it is easy to make colorful flash and flashlight shots. Color flash and torches are great for illuminating landscapes when taking pictures in the dark, or just highlighting certain areas in a photo. Different types of shapes and effects can be created by moving LED sticks, flashlights, and other light sources in the photo area while the camera is exposing. Second Chances (2022)

• Camera - Any digital camera with manual adjustments (including lamp mode).
• A tripod is one of the most important tools for creating lightpaintings. In most cases, your shutter will be open for a few minutes, and it's very important that the camera doesn't move during the exposure.
• Bulb - Use cable release or remote shutter release to start exposure. If you don't have these, use the camera's selfie function.
• Stopwatch - Useful because most lightpaint exposures will use bulb mode.
• The light source is your "brush". This may include flashlights, lasers, glow sticks, strobes, phones, and even candles. Note that different light sources produce different light and shadows. For example, LED light sources produce cooler (bluer) light, while halogen light sources produce warmer (orange) light.
• Colored gel. Color gels can be used to change the tone of lights and add color to paintings.

Camera Settings

The aperture value of the camera can be set according to the overall lighting of the scene and the brightness of the light tool used; Small apertures work best in dark spaces and when using dim lights, while larger apertures are needed in brighter spaces and when using bright light. Magnetic (2022) When choosing the correct f-stop, keep in mind that even very dark landscapes can become very bright in the final photo when using long exposure times. Using a bright flashlight to focus in the dark is helpful when wanting longer exposure times than the usual 30 seconds on most DSLRs, or you can use the camera's autofocus with the flash and then lock focus or manually switch focus to same effect.
